SS Innovations International, Inc. (Nasdaq: SSII) has demonstrated the capabilities of its SSi Mantra surgical robotic system by successfully completing a long-distance cross-border telesurgery spanning more than 4,500 miles. The procedure took place on May 2, 2026, during the Royal Australian College of Surgeons Annual Scientific Congress, with the surgeon located in Perth, Australia, and the patient in Indore, India.
Dr. Mohit Bhandari, President of IRCAD India, remotely performed a robotic gastrojejunostomy using the SSi MantrAsana tele-surgeon console. This compact, chair-based console is designed for portability and enables telesurgeries from various locations, including physician offices. The system features ultra-low latency connectivity, high-definition visualization, and precise instrument control.
To date, more than 170 telesurgeries, including intricate cardiac procedures, have been performed with the SSi Mantra system. Dr. Sudhir Srivastava, Chairman and CEO of SS Innovations, stated, “We believe that telesurgery has the power to transform traditional healthcare delivery and democratize access to global surgical expertise. We are proud to be pioneering this revolutionary technology.”
The SSi Mantra system is a user-friendly, modular, multi-arm system with advanced features, including 3 to 5 robotic arms, an open-faced ergonomic command center, a large 3D 4K monitor, and the ability to superimpose 3D models of diagnostic imaging. It supports over 40 different types of robotic endo-surgical instruments for various specialties, including cardiac surgery.
This demonstration underscores the potential of telesurgery to bridge geographical gaps, allowing patients in remote or underserved areas to access specialized surgical care. For the healthcare industry, this technology could reduce the need for patient travel and enable collaboration among surgeons worldwide. SS Innovations aims to make robotic surgery affordable and accessible globally, and this successful telesurgery marks a significant step toward that goal.
