The Storm Windows Release New Live Single, 'There's a Reason for Saturday Nights'

Paper Garden Records recording artists The Storm Windows today released a new single, “There’s a Reason for Saturday Nights,” from their forthcoming live album. The track was recorded live before an enthusiastic audience at Tank Studio in Burlington, Vermont, on November 1, 2025.

The Storm Windows, known as purveyors of “Power-Folk” and described by Spin Magazine as the “Folk Ramones,” performed as a trio on the recording: Rob Mathews on guitar and vocals, Don Mathews on upright bass and vocals, and Erik Anderson on drums. The single is the first release on the PGRoots label, a subsidiary of Paper Garden Records, and will be followed by the full live album on August 21, which will also be available on vinyl at live shows this summer.

The audio for the track was produced and mixed by Ben Collett and Julia Rangel at Tank Recording Studios. Fans can pre-stream the single now at this link.

The band’s name is derived from a John Prine song title, reflecting their status as veteran musicians who have weathered storms and continue to perform. Critics have labeled their music “New Americana – a blend of folk, rock and even jazz laced sonics.” The Storm Windows play both showcases and bar gigs, with upcoming tour dates listed on their website at thestormwindows.com.

This release is significant as it marks the launch of the PGRoots label, signaling a new direction for Paper Garden Records in live recordings and roots music. For fans of Americana and folk-rock, the single offers a taste of the band’s energetic live performances, which have earned them a devoted following. The upcoming full album will provide a more comprehensive look at their live show, potentially expanding their audience and reinforcing their reputation in the independent music scene.
