Trilogy Metals Swings to Q3 Profit, Advances Arctic Project Permitting

Trilogy Metals Inc. (NYSE American: TMQ) (TSX: TMQ) reported net income of $0.2 million for its fiscal third quarter ended August 31, 2026, reversing a net loss of $1.7 million in the same period last year. The improvement was primarily driven by a mark-to-market gain related to a derivative liability, according to the company's financial results. Trilogy ended the quarter with $31.2 million in cash and $30.3 million in adjusted working capital, providing a solid financial foundation as it advances its key projects.

The company highlighted significant progress at its Upper Kobuk Mineral Projects (UKMP) in northwestern Alaska, where a federal and state permitting schedule targets a Record of Decision for the Arctic Project in September 2028. Additionally, Trilogy noted the subsequent closing of a $35.6 million strategic equity investment by the U.S. Department of War. These developments underscore the strategic importance of the Ambler Mining District, which is considered one of the richest and most prospective copper-dominant districts globally. The district hosts polymetallic volcanogenic massive sulfide deposits containing copper, zinc, lead, gold, and silver, as well as carbonate replacement deposits with high-grade copper and cobalt mineralization.

Trilogy holds a 50 percent interest in Ambler Metals LLC, which owns 100 percent of the UKMP. On December 19, 2019, South32, a globally diversified mining and metals company, exercised its option to form a 50/50 joint venture with Trilogy Metals. The UKMP spans approximately 190,929 hectares and includes the Arctic VMS deposit and the Bornite carbonate replacement deposit. Ambler Metals has an agreement with NANA Regional Corporation, Inc., an Alaska Native Corporation, that provides a framework for exploration and potential development in cooperation with local communities. Trilogy's vision is to develop the Ambler Mining District into a premier North American copper producer while protecting and respecting subsistence livelihoods.

For investors, the swing to profitability and the clear permitting timeline for the Arctic Project could signal a turning point for Trilogy Metals. Copper is a critical component in renewable energy technologies, electric vehicles, and power infrastructure, and domestic supply sources are increasingly strategic. The U.S. Department of War's equity investment further highlights the project's national security implications.
