UGI Utilities has announced plans to begin significant system upgrades in Bethlehem starting July 9, as part of its ongoing commitment to ensuring safe and reliable service for its customers. The project, focusing on the replacement of a gas main, is expected to affect several streets, including West Graham Place, Vine Street, and Rink Street, with construction scheduled from 7am to 5pm, Monday through Friday, potentially extending into early August depending on weather conditions.
The upgrades not only aim to enhance the infrastructure's reliability but also present an opportunity for homes and businesses along the project route to convert to natural gas. However, the construction will necessitate parking restrictions and temporary interruptions to natural gas service, requiring UGI to access properties for equipment inspection and relighting.
This initiative underscores UGI Utilities' dedication to modernizing its infrastructure to meet the growing demands of its customer base, which exceeds 760,000 across its service areas. For those interested in converting to natural gas, UGI has provided contact information, though the company emphasizes the importance of planning ahead due to the expected disruptions.
The completion of the underground work is anticipated by early August, with final paving and restoration to follow. This project is a critical step in UGI's broader efforts to upgrade its systems, ensuring long-term service reliability and safety for the Bethlehem community and beyond.
