UGI Utilities is preparing to commence a significant infrastructure upgrade in Bethlehem, targeting key streets in the city with a comprehensive gas main replacement project. The initiative, scheduled to begin May 19 and continue through early July, will impact several downtown streets and provide critical improvements to the local natural gas system.
The project will focus on East Third Street, South New Street, Columbia Street, and Adams Street, with construction occurring Monday through Friday between 7am and 5pm. Residents and businesses in the affected areas should anticipate potential disruptions, including road closures, traffic delays, and parking restrictions.
Beyond infrastructure enhancement, the project presents a unique opportunity for local property owners. Homes and businesses along the project route can potentially convert to natural gas service, offering a potentially more efficient and cost-effective energy solution.
UGI Utilities has acknowledged that the project timeline may be subject to weather and working conditions, with final paving and street restoration to occur subsequent to the primary underground work. The utility company emphasizes its commitment to maintaining safe and reliable service throughout the upgrade process.
The infrastructure improvement represents a significant investment in Bethlehem's utility infrastructure, potentially enhancing energy reliability and offering modernization opportunities for local properties.
