UGI Utilities, Inc. will begin comprehensive gas main replacement projects in Bethlehem next week, targeting critical infrastructure improvements across several city streets. The two separate projects, scheduled to run from early April through mid-May, will replace aging gas mains and offer local properties the chance to convert to natural gas service.
The first project will focus on Seneca Street and South Bergan Street, with expected completion by late April. The second project will cover East 3rd Street, South New Street, Columbia Street, and Adams Street, anticipated to conclude by mid-May. Construction will occur Monday through Friday between 7 am and 5 pm.
Residents and businesses along the project routes should anticipate potential disruptions, including road closures, traffic delays, and parking restrictions. Some properties may experience temporary natural gas service interruptions, during which UGI technicians will need to inspect and relight equipment.
These infrastructure upgrades represent a significant investment in the city's utility network, potentially improving service reliability, reducing maintenance issues, and providing more residents with access to natural gas. The projects underscore UGI's commitment to maintaining and modernizing critical energy infrastructure.
Local drivers, residents, and business owners are advised to plan accordingly and expect potential transportation challenges during the construction period. Weather and working conditions may influence the projected completion dates.
