VolitionRx Joins €6.3 Million French-Funded DETECSEPS Project to Detect Sepsis Early

VolitionRx Limited (NYSE American: VNRX) has announced its participation in the DETECSEPS project, a French government-funded initiative aimed at early detection of sepsis. The project, which has received €6.3 million (approximately $7.3 million) in funding, officially launched as part of the DETECSEPS Consortium. The initiative is an effort of IHU SEPSIS, coordinated and sponsored by Assistance Publique – Hôpitaux de Paris in partnership with Hospices Civils de Lyon, IDS France, and Volition.

Under the collaboration, Volition will provide the project’s sole biomarker, Nu.Q NETs, while IDS France will supply its automated analyzer to measure the biomarker. DETECSEPS will evaluate an early detection approach that combines a routinely used clinical score with Volition’s Nu.Q NETs H3.1 blood biomarker to assess the risk that patients with suspected infections will progress to sepsis and help guide care during the first 24 hours. According to Volition, H3.1 levels can be measured using the IDS France automated analyzer, with results available within one hour.

The company estimates that, with approximately 166 million sepsis cases annually worldwide, the potential testing opportunity represents a multibillion-dollar total addressable market. This collaboration could position Volition’s epigenetic technology as a key tool in the global fight against sepsis, a condition that requires rapid intervention to improve patient outcomes.

Volition is a multi-national company focused on advancing the science of epigenetics. It is dedicated to saving lives and improving outcomes for people and animals with life-altering diseases through earlier detection, as well as disease and treatment monitoring. Through its subsidiaries, Volition is developing and commercializing simple, easy-to-use, cost-effective blood tests to help detect and monitor a range of diseases, including some cancers and diseases associated with NETosis, such as sepsis. Early detection and monitoring have the potential not only to prolong the life of patients but also to improve their quality of life. Volition’s research and development activities are centered in Belgium, with an innovation laboratory and office in the U.S. and an office in London.

For investors, the DETECSEPS project represents a significant validation of Volition’s Nu.Q NETs platform and could accelerate its path to commercialization in a large market. The involvement of prominent French healthcare institutions and government funding adds credibility and may facilitate further adoption in Europe and beyond. As sepsis remains a leading cause of death worldwide, a rapid and accurate test could become a standard of care, driving revenue growth for Volition.
