Waterloo Records, a cornerstone of Austin's music scene, has unveiled Waterloo Sound, a state-of-the-art post-production studio designed to cater to the evolving needs of today's creators. Located within the iconic Waterloo Records at 1105 N. Lamar Blvd, Waterloo Sound is set to open its doors on August 30, 2025, introducing a suite of services that blend traditional and modern production techniques.
At the heart of Waterloo Sound is the Nu•Studio System, a modular studio platform developed by Grammy Award-winning engineer Chad Franscoviak. This system offers Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision capabilities, enabling spatial audio production and high-resolution visual playback. The studio also features a vinyl lacquer cutting lathe, making it one of the few in the U.S. to offer both immersive audio post-production and analog vinyl mastering under one roof.
Emily Gianopoulos, Partner at Waterloo Sound, emphasized the studio's role in Austin's creative evolution. "Our goal with Waterloo Sound is to carry forward Austin's legacy of innovation and give creators a home for what comes next," Gianopoulos said. The studio's services include Dolby Atmos music mixing, video post-production, vinyl mastering, and support for game development, among others.
The launch of Waterloo Sound represents a significant milestone for Waterloo Records, co-owned by Trey Watson and Caren Kelleher. Watson expressed enthusiasm about the project, stating, "Waterloo Sound is an asset that is going to elevate the overall allure and attraction of Waterloo Records." The expansion also introduces new experiences for visitors, including the opportunity to witness vinyl production and enjoy a café-style lounge.
With its combination of cutting-edge technology and respect for musical heritage, Waterloo Sound is poised to become a hub for creators across disciplines, reinforcing Austin's status as a leader in the creative industries.
