Overtake (CEO Byoungjae Lee) has announced the successful conclusion of the closed beta test (CBT) for Somnis: Rumble Rush, the first of their three blockchain games set for release this year. The CBT, which ran from July 4th to 12th, featured a total prize pool of $35,000 and sold out of its non-transferable CBT passes within nine hours.
The decision to make CBT passes non-transferable soul-bound tokens (SBTs) was a strategic move that prevented secondary trading but fostered a genuine gamer community. This community engagement is expected to serve as a foundation for Overtake's future endeavors.
High interest in the CBT led to a temporary overload of the Layerswap Bridge, necessary for purchasing the passes. Despite this, the CBT boasted an impressive 83% retention rate on the first day and 60% by the seventh day. These figures significantly outperform typical game retention rates, which usually range between 20-30% on day one and 10-15% by day seven.
Players from various countries exhibited high engagement levels, with an average playtime exceeding 10 hours. The community also actively contributed by creating gameplay guides, winning strategies, and play videos.
Looking ahead, Overtake plans to launch the open beta test (OBT) for Somnis around mid-August. CEO Byoungjae Lee stated that the company will incorporate feedback from the CBT to present an improved version of Somnis. This successful CBT is a promising indicator for the game's future, generating high expectations for its upcoming launch.
