On June 28, 2026, the Peace Rides held their monthly motorcycle ride through South Central Los Angeles, continuing a 14-year tradition of promoting peace and supporting families affected by violence. The group, which assembles at a local Park & Ride and concludes at Athens Park, aims to demonstrate that communities can unite in healing rather than retaliation.
Among the participants was a 70-year-old professional wedding photographer attending his first Peace Ride. His 32-year-old grandson was fatally shot following an argument, leaving behind 12 children. The grandfather, rather than seeking revenge, chose to join one of the motorcycle groups that participate in the monthly rides, hoping his voice and example can help prevent other families from experiencing similar tragedy.
During the event, he was presented a copy of The Way to Happiness, a common-sense guide to better living. He accepted it with gratitude and took additional copies to share with others, aiming to spread a message of peace, compassion, and personal responsibility in his community.
For the past 14 years, Church of Scientology Celebrity Centre International has donated The Way to Happiness booklets to the Peace Rides events. The booklet, written by L. Ron Hubbard, Humanitarian and Founder of the Scientology Religion, states, "Happiness lies in engaging in worthwhile activities" and "And that is my wish for you: flourish and prosper!"
The Peace Rides represent a grassroots effort to address the impact of violence in South Central Los Angeles. By bringing together riders dedicated to peace, the group provides a platform for community members to support one another and promote non-violent solutions. The grandfather's decision to join underscores the potential for personal tragedy to inspire positive action, highlighting the importance of community-based initiatives in fostering healing and resilience.
The Church of Scientology Celebrity Centre International's ongoing support of the Peace Rides through donations of The Way to Happiness booklets reflects a commitment to community outreach. The Scientology religion, founded by author and philosopher L. Ron Hubbard, has expanded to more than 11,000 Churches, Missions, and affiliated groups, with millions of members in 167 countries. This partnership illustrates how local organizations can collaborate to promote peace and well-being in neighborhoods affected by violence.
