Angkor Resources Expands Cambodian Oil and Gas Exploration with Mussel Basin Addition to Block VIII
TL;DR
Angkor Resources gains strategic advantage with 220 sq km expansion in Block VIII, enhancing oil and gas exploration potential in Cambodia's Mussel Basin.
EnerCam will incorporate new seismic lines into ongoing operations, targeting September 20 for processing and interpretation of the Mussel Basin area.
Angkor's expansion supports Cambodia's energy development while maintaining environmental responsibility through voluntary removal of protected areas from exploration.
The newly added Mussel Basin contains documented surface oil seeps and promising stratigraphic trapping anomalies identified through advanced seismic analysis.

Angkor Resources Corp. has received approval from Cambodia's Ministry of Mines and Energy to incorporate the Mussel Basin, an additional 220 square kilometers, into its Block VIII oil and gas license. This expansion brings the total license area to 4277 square kilometers following the company's voluntary removal of all parks and protected areas from development.
Mike Weeks, President of subsidiary EnerCam Resources Co. Ltd., stated that the Mussel Basin represents a significant area with strong indications as an added sub-basin for oil and gas exploration and development in Cambodia. The addition allows the company to fully evaluate all prospective sedimentary zones of interest within Permit Block VIII.
Justin Snelling, senior geologist and reservoir specialist for EnerCam, described the Mussel Basin as a self-contained Cenozoic age sedimentary basin. Review of two 2008 vintage Accelerated Weight Drop 2-D seismic lines has identified interesting potential stratigraphic trapping anomalies. These findings, combined with known legacy surface oil seeps documented in the area, make this basin a prospective target for early exploratory drilling.
The company will incorporate seismic lines of the Mussel Basin into its current field seismic operations, with processing and interpretation targeted for completion by September 20, 2025. The expansion demonstrates Cambodia's growing importance in regional energy development and represents a strategic move by Angkor Resources to consolidate its exploration assets. The company's approach of voluntarily removing protected areas while adding geologically promising territory reflects evolving industry standards for responsible resource development.
This development occurs within the context of Angkor Resources' broader energy portfolio, which includes operations in Canada through its subsidiary EnerCam Exploration Ltd. The company maintains its commitment to environmental and social projects while pursuing cleaner energy solutions across jurisdictions.
