ARC Clean Technology has reached a pivotal milestone with the completion of Phase 2 of the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) Vendor Design Review for its ARC-100 advanced small modular reactor. This achievement signifies no fundamental barriers to licensing have been identified, paving the way for the reactor's commercial deployment. The ARC-100, a 100MWe sodium-cooled fast neutron reactor, is designed for both electricity production and industrial heat applications, offering a clean and reliable power source.
The successful review by the CNSC, an internationally recognized nuclear regulator, underscores the credibility and leadership of ARC's technology in the advanced small modular reactor sector. The Phase 2 VDR involved the submission of hundreds of technical documents across 19 focus areas, including safety systems and regulatory compliance, highlighting ARC's commitment to meeting stringent nuclear standards.
This development not only advances ARC's licensing and deployment efforts but also supports Canada's leadership in clean energy and advanced nuclear technology. The progress is particularly significant for the planned demonstration unit of the ARC-100 in New Brunswick, where New Brunswick Power has already submitted a license to prepare site application, marking a critical step in the reactor's journey towards operational reality.
