Award-winning editor Imanol Delgado Cadivich will lead the editing process for the upcoming short film 'When We Were,' a project designed to shed light on the often-overlooked experience of loneliness among seniors in assisted living communities. The film, an adaptation of Maya Angelou's poignant poem, represents a significant artistic exploration of senior isolation and emotional vulnerability.
Directed by AFI alumna Leslie Bates and potentially featuring legendary actress Barbara Bain, the film aims to create a nuanced narrative about aging and human connection. Delgado Cadivich, known for his critically acclaimed work on short films 'Dream Door' and 'Flutter,' brings substantial expertise in visual storytelling to the project.
The editor's international experience and proven ability to craft stories that resonate across cultural boundaries make him particularly well-suited to this sensitive narrative. His involvement is expected to enhance the film's emotional depth and narrative rhythm, particularly in conveying the complex emotional landscape of elderly protagonists.
Production is scheduled to begin on April 1, 2025, with Delgado Cadivich participating in pre-production discussions focused on pacing and visual storytelling. The project represents an important artistic effort to generate empathy and understanding toward senior experiences, highlighting the emotional complexity of aging and institutional living.
