Birmingham OB/Gyn announced plans to develop the Birmingham OB/Gyn – Trussville Women's Health Center at The Pinnacle Shopping Center in Trussville, Alabama, aiming to expand access to comprehensive women's healthcare for residents of eastern Jefferson, St. Clair, and Blount Counties. The new center, described as a regional hub, will replace the practice's current limited clinic schedule with a full-time operation offering appointments Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Friday from 8:00 a.m. until noon.
The expansion addresses the needs of one of Alabama's fastest-growing regions, where travel patterns have shown a demand for convenient, comprehensive care closer to home. Services will include obstetrics, gynecology, dedicated ultrasound, screening mammography, breast arterial calcification (BAC) assessment, on-site laboratory testing, non-stress testing (NST), and wellness services. By consolidating these offerings, patients can complete annual exams, mammograms, and lab work in a single visit, reducing the need for multiple appointments across different locations.
A key feature of the center is the introduction of 3D screening mammography through a partnership with Onsite Women's Health. This collaboration also includes the Mammo with heart program, an AI-enabled initiative that identifies breast arterial calcifications during routine mammograms—a marker associated with increased cardiovascular disease risk. David Freedman, president and chief growth officer at Onsite, noted that the program aims to "support earlier detection, increase awareness of cardiovascular risk and help more women take charge of their long-term health." Women with concerning BAC findings will be encouraged to follow up with their primary care physician or a cardiovascular specialist.
David Carmichael, CEO of Birmingham OB/Gyn, emphasized that the project is about more than a larger office: "It's about making it easier for women to receive comprehensive healthcare closer to home." The center will complement the practice's existing locations in Birmingham and Hoover, and physicians will continue delivering babies at Grandview Medical Center.
Melissa Walker, director of the Trussville Area Chamber of Commerce, welcomed the investment, stating that it strengthens families and enhances quality of life in the region. Construction is expected to begin in the coming months, with a grand opening announcement to follow. The Trussville Women's Health Center represents a strategic investment in preventive care and long-term health outcomes for women in eastern Alabama, reducing unnecessary travel and improving access to essential services in a single, convenient location.
