Seattle-based nonprofit Cascadia Poetics Lab is set to host multiple poetry events in British Columbia to promote their anthology, Cascadian Zen Vol. I, published by Watershed Press. The anthology features work from distinguished artists and authors throughout the Cascadia bioregion, exploring themes related to the ecosystem, Zen practice, and related philosophical inquiries.
The first event will take place at the Mountain Rain Zen Community in Vancouver on August 22 from 7-9 P.M. PDT. This session will feature the anthology's three editors—Paul Nelson, Adelia MacWilliam, and Jason Wirth—alongside Canadian poet Daphne Marlatt. The second event will be a weekend-long gathering at the Abbey Studio in Cumberland on August 24-25, featuring Indigenous elder Wedlidi Speck and poet/philosopher Jan Zwicky in addition to the editors. The final event will occur at the Community Hall on Quadra Island on August 26 from 7-9 P.M. PDT, featuring Jan Zwicky and poet/typographer Robert Bringhurst along with the editors. All events are free and open to the public.
Paul Nelson, a published poet and interviewer, founded Cascadia Poetics Lab and serves as its director. Adelia MacWilliam, also a published poet, is the Founding Editor of Watershed Press. Dr. Jason Wirth, a professor of Philosophy at Seattle University, is a published author and a Founding Editor of Watershed Press.
These events present an opportunity for the public to engage with poetry that emphasizes the significance of the Cascadia bioregion and Zen practice. More details on the events can be found on the Cascadia Poetics Lab's events page.
