Adams, running for Ohio's First Congressional District, stated that recent Iranian attacks on oil refineries and threats to close the Strait of Hormuz during Operation Epic Fury highlight vulnerabilities in global energy supply chains that domestic production could mitigate.
"When hostile regimes can threaten the world's energy supply overnight, it proves exactly why America must produce its own energy," Adams said. "Energy independence isn't just an economic issue—it's a national security issue. The stronger America's energy production is, the weaker rogue regimes like Iran become." The candidate criticized current Washington policies, specifically targeting Representative Greg Landsman and the Biden administration for what she described as restrictive measures on domestic energy development.
Adams' plan includes eliminating the federal gas tax to provide immediate relief to consumers and businesses, opening the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) and other federal lands to energy production, and restarting major pipeline projects like the Keystone pipeline. The proposal also calls for ending restrictions on oil and gas leasing on federal lands and offshore areas, streamlining permits for refineries and energy infrastructure, and supporting an all-of-the-above energy strategy prioritizing affordability, reliability, and national security.
The candidate pointed to specific administration actions she claims have driven up energy costs, including the January 2021 suspension of new oil and gas leasing on federal lands and waters and the 2023 cancellation of remaining oil and gas leases in Alaska's Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. Adams argued these policies, along with Landsman's support for what she called "the radical Green New Deal agenda," have made America more dependent on foreign energy sources while hurting the economy.
"Lower gas prices mean lower costs for groceries, transportation, and everyday goods," Adams emphasized. "Congress must stop attacking American energy and start putting American families first." The candidate pledged to work with congressional leaders and former President Donald Trump if elected to implement her energy agenda, which she claims will deliver lasting relief to consumers while strengthening national security through reduced foreign energy dependence.
