The Coolidge Reagan Foundation (CRF) has filed formal complaints against Representative Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) with the Federal Election Commission, Office of Congressional Ethics, and Department of Justice, alleging serious ethical and legal violations.
The complaints center on three primary allegations: voter intimidation, fraudulent campaign contributions, and misconduct in office. CRF claims Crockett distributed a social media video depicting a cartoon version of herself and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez attacking a Republican voter, which they argue violates federal voter intimidation statutes.
A significant portion of the complaint focuses on campaign finance irregularities. CRF alleges that Crockett's campaign committee, 'Jasmine for US', accepted potentially fraudulent contributions processed through ActBlue. Specifically, they cite an elderly retiree, Randy Best, being listed as making over 2,500 contributions totaling more than $21,000 – transactions his wife claims never occurred.
The foundation argues these actions constitute potential violations of federal campaign finance laws, including prohibitions on accepting contributions in another person's name. CRF is calling for immediate investigations by the FEC, DOJ, and Office of Congressional Ethics to examine these claims.
CRF leadership, including Chairman Shaun McCutcheon and counsel Dan Backer, characterized the allegations as a significant threat to democratic processes. They argue that Crockett's actions, including inflammatory rhetoric and the controversial video, undermine electoral integrity and congressional ethical standards.
The complaints represent a serious challenge to Rep. Crockett's political standing, potentially exposing her to legal scrutiny and professional consequences if the allegations are substantiated.
