Dr. Mike Katz, a pediatric critical care anesthesiologist and former Delaware State Senator, has been named the Delaware State Chair for U.S. Term Limits, bringing renewed momentum to the national conversation about congressional term limits.
Katz, who previously served in the Delaware State Senate and ran as an independent candidate for the U.S. Senate in 2024, highlighted the overwhelming public support for term limits. A 2023 RMG Research Poll revealed that 81% of Delaware voters support congressional term limits, indicating broad bipartisan agreement on the issue.
In his new role, Katz aims to push for legislative action that would implement term limits, arguing that prolonged congressional service has transformed from public service to a perceived career entitlement. He believes term limits would enhance governmental accountability and diversity in congressional representation.
Philip Blumel, President of U.S. Term Limits, expressed confidence in Katz's leadership, expecting his involvement will help advance term limit resolutions in Delaware.
Katz's background as a medical professional, business owner, and political independent provides a unique perspective to the term limits advocacy. His previous legislative experience includes writing and passing significant state-level reforms in healthcare information networking, lobby regulations, and business development policies.
The appointment underscores a growing national movement to restructure congressional service, with proponents arguing that term limits could fundamentally transform the political landscape by preventing career politicians and encouraging fresh perspectives in government.
