The American Heart Association (AHA) Social Impact Funds has received a $2 million grant from the Grubhub Community Fund to support innovative organizations addressing food security, technological innovation, and economic resilience in New York City and Chicago.
The funding will support up to 12 organizations that demonstrate potential for lasting community impact, with four initial recipients already identified. These organizations include CareYaya, a care provider marketplace; Farm Generations Corporation, a farmer-owned cooperative; Nectar, a food security platform; and RiseKit, a job training software platform.
Dr. Regina Benjamin, former U.S. Surgeon General and chair of the Social Impact Funds Impact Investment Committee, emphasized the importance of addressing social drivers of health. These factors, including living conditions and economic opportunities, can significantly influence life expectancy and health outcomes.
The selected organizations were chosen based on their innovative approaches to addressing local barriers to achieving equitable health. By focusing on food access, workforce development, and technology-driven solutions, the funded initiatives aim to create meaningful change in urban communities.
Since launching in 2018, the AHA Social Impact Funds have provided $21.5 million in financial support to over 130 local enterprises, positively impacting nearly 5 million people. This latest grant from the Grubhub Community Fund continues that mission of driving health equity and community empowerment.
