Eco Expo Asia 2026 Returns with Record International Participation and Stronger ESG Confidence

Eco Expo Asia 2026, jointly organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) and Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd, will take place from 26 to 29 October at AsiaWorld-Expo. The 21st edition, themed 'Connecting the World for a Sustainable Future', features over 340 exhibitors from 16 countries and regions, including first-time participants from Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam. The expo debuts an ASEAN Pavilion with 13 green technology companies from eight member countries and a Qinghai Pavilion from the Chinese Mainland. Some 200 key officials and representatives from the Chinese Mainland, Hong Kong, Belt and Road countries, and ASEAN will attend, underscoring the event's role in fostering cross-regional cooperation.

HKTDC Associate Executive Director Silas Chu noted that green transformation has shifted from policy aspiration to market rule. The HKTDC also released the 'HKTDC ESG Index 2026', which rose to 67.3 from 64.2 last year, well above the neutral threshold of 50. The survey revealed that 93% of respondents have integrated ESG into business decision-making, and the share of businesses sourcing or selling ESG-related products and services increased from 29% in 2025 to 46% in 2026. Chu said the rise reflects strengthening global confidence in Hong Kong's role as an ESG business hub, adding that ESG has evolved beyond compliance into a competitive advantage.

The expo centres on four thematic areas: Green Energy in Motion, Frontier Green Tech, Building for a Greener City, and From Waste to Worth. Highlights include EcoCeres Ltd.'s sustainable aviation fuel, Stellerus Technology Limited's Multi-Spectral Imaging Carbon Observatory (MUSICO) deployed on China's Tiangong space station, and Green AI Technology Limited's new unmanned recycling station REV. Over 30 forums and seminars will bring together more than 80 government officials, industry leaders, and business representatives. The final day, 29 October, is Public Day with free admission, offering workshops and seminars to promote green lifestyles.

The expo's importance extends beyond the show floor. With global demand for ESG solutions rising, Hong Kong is positioning itself as a hub for green finance, professional services, and innovation. The event also supports the HKSAR Government's First Five-Year Plan and the National 15th Five-Year Plan by advancing green transformation.
