Energy Fuels Completes Acquisition of Australian Strategic Materials, Bolstering Western Rare Earth Supply Chain

Energy Fuels Inc. (NYSE American: UUUU) (TSX: EFR), a leading U.S. producer of rare earth elements, uranium, and other critical materials, has completed its acquisition of Australian Strategic Materials Limited (ASM). This strategic move strengthens Energy Fuels' goal of establishing an integrated Western mine-to-magnet supply chain, a critical step in reducing dependence on Chinese rare earth processing.

The acquisition brings ASM's operating Korean Metals Plant in South Korea into Energy Fuels' portfolio. This facility currently has a production capacity of 1,300 tonnes per year of neodymium-iron-boron (NdFeB) alloy, a key material used in permanent magnets for electric vehicles, wind turbines, and other high-tech applications. The plant also offers commercial metallization capabilities for neodymium-praseodymium (NdPr), another essential rare earth element. Energy Fuels plans to expand the plant's capacity to 3,600 tonnes of NdFeB alloy annually, with commissioning expected as early as the end of 2026.

In addition to the Korean Metals Plant, the acquisition adds ASM's Dubbo project in Australia, which contains a long-life resource of rare earths and other critical minerals. This resource complements Energy Fuels' existing production and expansion initiatives for NdPr, terbium, and dysprosium oxides at its White Mesa Mill in Utah, the only fully licensed conventional uranium mill in the U.S. The company also has heavy mineral sands projects in Brazil, Australia, and Madagascar, which will further diversify its supply sources.

The combined platform now spans the entire rare earth supply chain, from mining and processing to oxides, metals, and alloys. This vertical integration is a significant milestone for Western efforts to secure a reliable supply of rare earth materials, which are vital for national security and the transition to clean energy technologies. According to Energy Fuels, the company's planned acquisition of Vacuumschmelze (VAC), a permanent magnet manufacturer, would extend its capabilities into magnet production, creating a fully integrated mine-to-magnet operation in the West.

The completion of this acquisition also marks the delisting of ASM shares from the Australian Securities Exchange, as the company becomes a wholly-owned subsidiary of Energy Fuels. This transaction underscores Energy Fuels' commitment to becoming a dominant player in the Western rare earth market.

For investors and industry observers, the acquisition is a clear signal that the U.S. and its allies are building the infrastructure needed to compete with China's dominance in rare earth processing. As the demand for electric vehicles and renewable energy grows, the importance of a secure, domestic supply chain for rare earth elements cannot be overstated. Energy Fuels' expansion into metals and alloys production is a proactive step toward ensuring that Western manufacturers have access to these critical materials without relying on foreign sources.
