FingerMotion Expands AI Compute Footprint with Alberta Land Deal

FingerMotion Inc. (NASDAQ: FNGR) has entered into a binding agreement with BlueFlare Group Holdings Inc. to acquire approximately 20.2 acres in Hanna, Alberta, for the development of Hanna Campus #1, an AI inference compute campus. The planned site contemplates 3 MW of local grid supply and 3 MW of behind-the-meter natural gas generation, for a total capacity of 6 MW. This project is in addition to FingerMotion’s previously announced 99 MW Alberta development program.

The agreement provides for a 60-day due diligence period covering title, environmental condition, zoning and permits, utilities, access and financing. Closing is scheduled 30 days after conditions are waived. BlueFlare will design, build and operate the site’s power and infrastructure, with development permit applications planned during due diligence. Construction is expected to follow closing and permit approval.

This move marks a significant diversification for FingerMotion, a company traditionally known for its mobile payment and recharge platform solutions in China. With a growing user base, FingerMotion has been developing additional value-added technologies. The vision is to rapidly grow the user base through organic means and develop an ecosystem of users with high engagement rates utilizing its innovative applications. Developing a highly engaged ecosystem would strategically position the Company to onboard larger customer bases. FingerMotion eventually hopes to serve over 1 billion users in the China market and expand the model to other regional markets.

The AI inference compute campus represents a strategic entry into the AI infrastructure space, which is critical for supporting advanced applications and services. As AI adoption accelerates globally, demand for compute capacity is surging. FingerMotion’s investment in Alberta, a region with abundant energy resources, could provide a competitive advantage in powering AI workloads. The project’s total capacity of 6 MW, while modest compared to large-scale data centers, is a stepping stone toward the larger 99 MW program. If successful, this could open new revenue streams and enhance FingerMotion’s technological capabilities, potentially increasing its value proposition to investors and customers.

The development also highlights the growing trend of technology companies securing energy infrastructure to support AI operations. For Alberta, it brings potential economic benefits, including construction jobs and local energy demand. However, risks remain, including due diligence outcomes, permitting, financing, and execution. The market will watch closely to see if FingerMotion can successfully transition from mobile payments to AI compute infrastructure.
