FingerMotion Inc. (NASDAQ: FNGR), Genius Group Limited (NYSE American: GNS) and BlueFlare Energy Solutions Inc. have signed binding agreements to create GENIUSpark Alberta Inc., a joint venture that will develop high-performance computing (HPC) data centers in Alberta, Canada. FingerMotion will own 51% of the venture, with Genius Group holding the remaining 49%. The announcement, detailed in a press release, marks a significant move by FingerMotion beyond its core mobile payment and recharge platform business in China and into the energy-intensive infrastructure that supports artificial intelligence and advanced computing.
The first project, Hanna Campus No. 1, will be built on a 20.2-acre site in east-central Alberta. It will launch with 2.4 megawatts (MW) of HPC capacity, supported by 3 MW of grid power and an option for additional natural gas generation. The $24.3 million project is expected to be financed with approximately $14.4 million in debt and $9.9 million in equity. Construction is scheduled to begin in December 2026, with initial computing operations targeted for the second quarter of 2027, subject to financing, regulatory approvals and other closing conditions. At full capacity, the Hanna facility is designed to generate more than $24 million in annual revenue and will serve as a pilot for a broader Alberta expansion.
The venture’s ambitions extend well beyond the first site. GENIUSpark Alberta is targeting an initial 100 MW of HPC capacity, with a longer-term goal of 1 gigawatt. FingerMotion will oversee site acquisition, power infrastructure, construction and data center management alongside BlueFlare, while Genius Group will lead education, workforce development and community programs. Each site aims to contribute 10% of net profits to a locally governed community fund. The partners also intend to explore a potential public listing of GENIUSpark Alberta on the TSX or Nasdaq. The joint venture matters for investors because it diversifies FingerMotion’s business at a time when demand for HPC capacity is surging. The company’s existing operations are focused on China’s mobile payment and recharge market, where it aims to serve over 1 billion users. By partnering with Genius Group and BlueFlare, FingerMotion gains exposure to the fast-growing data center sector, though the project carries execution risks tied to financing, permitting and construction timelines. For the industry, the Alberta project adds new HPC capacity in a region with access to grid power and natural gas, potentially easing supply constraints. The 10% community fund commitment also sets a model for local benefit sharing that other developers may watch.
