Green SM Launches All-Electric Taxi Service in Los Angeles, Marking First North American Entry

Green SM, the Vietnamese all-electric ride-hailing company, officially launched its taxi service in Los Angeles, California, on October 13, 2026, marking its first entry into North America and its ninth global market. The move brings a 100% electric fleet to one of the world's most competitive transportation markets and signals the company's accelerating international expansion following rapid growth across Asia and Europe.

Customers in Los Angeles can book rides through the Green SM app, by calling the company's hotline, or by hailing a vehicle on the street. The service covers everyday trips, longer journeys, and airport transfers. Green SM operates a fleet of VinFast VF 8 vehicles, which the company describes as spacious, smooth, and modern. The company emphasizes professionally trained drivers, transparent fare information, and reliable service under its "5 Good Promises": Good Cars, Good Drivers, Good Price, Good Experience, and Good for the Environment.

To attract riders, Green SM is offering new customers 50% off fares, up to USD 12 per ride, on their first five trips. Customers also receive a complimentary Green Pass membership with 10 discount vouchers per month, each providing 30% off fares, up to USD 10 per ride.

Ms. Hoang Thanh Hang, CEO of Green SM in the U.S., said the United States represents an important milestone in the company's growth. "We are not simply expanding into a new market. We aim to build trust with customers, drivers and local communities, one journey at a time," she said. "Our experience across international markets has shown us that the future of electric mobility is not defined by an all-electric fleet alone. It also depends on service quality, well-trained and reliable drivers, and genuine care in every customer interaction."

The launch carries implications beyond a single city. Los Angeles is a major market for ride-hailing and a key test for Green SM's model, which combines VinFast's electric vehicles with the company's operational expertise. If successful, the entry could intensify competition among ride-hailing firms and accelerate the adoption of zero-emission fleets in the U.S., where electric vehicle adoption has faced cost and infrastructure hurdles. Green SM says it will gradually build its local team, recruit and train local drivers, and strengthen operational capabilities, aiming to create employment opportunities and contribute to the transition toward greener mobility in the region.

Founded in Vietnam in 2023, Green SM now operates in Vietnam, Laos, Indonesia, the Philippines, India, Kazakhstan, Denmark, and the Netherlands. The company reports approximately 850 million completed rides, nearly 6 billion kilometers covered, and more than 800,000 tons of CO₂ emissions reduced, equivalent to the carbon absorbed by roughly 36 million trees. According to Media OutReach Newswire, the company will continue investing in its fleet, technology, driver team, and service quality as it pursues sustainable growth in the U.S. and international markets.
