HACU Selects 26 Fellows for 2025-26 Leadership Academy to Advance Hispanic Higher Education Leadership

The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities has selected 26 fellows for the seventh cohort of its Leadership Academy/La Academia de Liderazgo, continuing its mission to develop future leaders in higher education with particular focus on Hispanic-Serving Institutions and Emerging HSIs. The program, which has advanced careers across various higher education institutions since its inception, demonstrates significant value in expanding opportunities at the highest levels of college and university administrations.

Fellows will participate in a comprehensive one-year program featuring webinars and three seminars, beginning in November 2025 during HACU's 39th Annual Conference in Aurora, Colorado. The second seminar will occur in Washington, D.C., in April 2026 at HACU's National Capitol Forum, while the third will take place at an international location yet to be determined. The program's faculty comprises current and former presidents, chancellors, and senior administrators with over 100 years of combined experience across private and public universities, community colleges, and faith-based institutions.

A critical component includes mentorship from university presidents or senior-level administrators, coupled with developing special projects designed to impact each fellow's current institution. The program's effectiveness is evidenced by nine academy alumni who have attained presidential positions, including leaders at institutions such as California State University, Fresno, Macalester College, and Oregon Coast Community College. The selection of fellows represents diverse institutions across the United States, including participants from University of Northern Colorado, Rutgers University-Newark, University of California campuses, and multiple community colleges.

The program receives support from Capital One and Mellon Foundation, which provide fellowships to selected recipients. This initiative addresses the critical need for diverse leadership in higher education, particularly within institutions serving Hispanic students, ensuring that administrative leadership reflects the growing diversity of student populations and brings varied perspectives to educational leadership challenges.
