HKTDC Launches 60th Anniversary Celebrations with 'Design Gallery on the Move' Campaign Across Hong Kong

The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) today launched its 60th anniversary celebrations with the 'Design Gallery on the Move' campaign, a mobile exhibition that will tour 16 locations across Hong Kong from May 29 to June 18. The initiative, part of the HKTDC's flagship retail platform Design Gallery, features 36 Hong Kong brands and over 60 products across six thematic zones, aiming to bring original Hong Kong design into local communities for residents and visitors.

Professor Frederick Ma, HKTDC Chairman, emphasized the significance of the campaign in carrying forward the HKTDC's six-decade mission of 'going global' and supporting Hong Kong enterprises. He drew parallels to the council's early efforts in 1967, when it converted a cargo truck into a mobile exhibition to promote Hong Kong products in Africa. 'This flexible, resilient and can-do attitude embodies the Lion Rock spirit of Hong Kong,' Ma said, noting that the 'Design Gallery on the Move' campaign continues this tradition by showcasing local SMEs' creativity and strengths.

The six thematic zones include DG Delights – Hong Kong themed, DG Discover, DG Delights - IP, DG Green, DG Luxe, DG Silver Market & DG Mini. Visitors can explore the unique stories behind local brands and purchase items at Design Gallery's physical stores or online. During the campaign, online shoppers receive discount coupons. To celebrate the 60th anniversary, Design Gallery is also offering '60 items at 40% off' at its Wan Chai Convention and Exhibition Centre store from May to July, featuring 20 selected items monthly in categories like gifts, homeware and fashion accessories.

The HKTDC's anniversary celebrations extend beyond the mobile exhibition. A series of themed initiatives will roll out, including 'Catch the 60th Anniversary-themed Tram', the 'Next 60 Forum', a cocktail reception, a special giveaway during the Hong Kong Book Fair, a community art co-creation event, and the 'HKTDC 60th Anniversary Exhibition'. These events span exhibitions, community engagement and industry activities, supporting Hong Kong enterprises and celebrating the milestone with the community.

Since its establishment in 1991, Design Gallery has promoted Hong Kong's creative design and supported local SMEs by showcasing products to a global audience. It operates physical stores at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre and Hong Kong International Airport, and launched an online store in 2021. The platform promotes about 400 Hong Kong brands annually through online and offline channels, including 72 sales points across 27 mainland cities and expansion into ASEAN markets last year. The HKTDC, a statutory body established in 1966, promotes Hong Kong as a two-way global investment and business hub with over 50 offices worldwide.
