Hong Kong to Host Fifth International Healthcare Week, Showcasing Medical Tech and Investment Hub

The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) announced today that the fifth edition of International Healthcare Week will be held from May 11 to 31, 2026, featuring two flagship events: the sixth Asia Summit on Global Health (ASGH) and the 17th Hong Kong International Medical and Healthcare Fair (Medical Fair). The events, taking place at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, aim to highlight Hong Kong's role as a medical technology and investment hub.

The ASGH, jointly organized by the HKSAR government and HKTDC, will take place on May 11-12, while the Medical Fair, organized by HKTDC and co-organized by the Hong Kong MedTech Association, runs from May 11-13. The events are designed to provide a one-stop platform covering the entire medical and healthcare industry chain, from technology R&D to investment matching and medical equipment manufacturing.

Sophia Chong, Executive Director of HKTDC, said: "The medical and healthcare landscape is undergoing a profound and rapid transformation. Hong Kong, by leveraging its preeminence as an international financial centre, its world-class research ecosystem and its unique positioning bridging the Chinese Mainland and the world, serves as an ideal platform for scientific excellence, strategic investment and financing, and international trade for medical and healthcare innovation."

The ASGH, themed "Fuelling Healthcare Breakthroughs," will feature a prestigious speaker lineup including Professor Michael Levitt, 2013 Nobel Prize laureate in Chemistry. The opening session will include remarks by Chief Executive John Lee and Vice Minister of the National Health Commission Prof Zeng Yixin. Plenary sessions will address pandemic preparedness and cross-sector collaboration for healthcare breakthroughs, with speakers from organizations like GSK, JP Morgan, and the World Health Organization.

The summit will also feature thematic sessions on AI in healthcare, the silver economy, and traditional Chinese medicine, aligning with the National 15th Five-Year Plan. The InnoHealthShowcase will present innovations from about 180 companies across 11 countries, with project pitching and deal-making sessions to connect startups with investors.

The Medical Fair, themed "Innovations Boosting Smart Health Experience," will gather some 300 exhibitors from 10 countries and regions. It focuses on three key areas: MedTech, GeronTech, and Preventive Healthcare. Highlights include a smart health wearable watch integrating Chinese and Western medicine, an augmented reality surgical platform for orthopaedic surgeons, and a world-first smart knee brace using AI and wearable technology.

Both events will adopt the "EXHIBITION+" hybrid model, with a physical fair and online business matching via the "Click2Match" platform from May 4 to 20. More than 50 themed forums and seminars will be held during the fair, covering topics from mental health innovation to gerontechnology demand.

International Healthcare Week aims to promote innovation and investment exchange in the Asian healthcare industry, further creating industry synergies and driving Hong Kong's development as a regional medical innovation hub.
