On August 27, the inaugural Chinatown Creator Awards at COYA Living attracted a record-breaking crowd, honoring the top creators for their impact on the Spring Mountain Road corridor's culture and commerce. The luxury apartment community at Chinatown's eastern gateway served as co-host and venue for the private reception, which brought together photographers, videographers, food personalities, digital storytellers, chefs, restaurant owners, and neighborhood partners.
Writer, film director, and City Cast correspondent Jason Harris emceed the evening. Twenty honorees were acknowledged in five groups, mirroring their May introduction in the 'This Week in Chinatown' series by ChinatownVegas.com. Among those in attendance were @lasvegasfill, @brandonfromvegas, @wheretogovegas, @therubyontherocks, @baileyzeats, @withlove_christine, @tiny_pennguin, @giselliii93, @tiarappgyo, @antonio_loves_wings, @heydonnah, @ceslynne, @shekuni_lv, and @studiosealv. Each received custom plaques commemorating their influence and contributions.
Joe Muscaglione, founder of ChinatownVegas.com and Chinatown Amplify, emphasized the creators' role: "The creators honored through these awards have done far more than post about restaurants." The event also served as a culinary showcase, featuring dishes from Sparrow + Wolf and Lamaii, both of which received MICHELIN Guide recommendations the night before, as reported by Las Vegas Weekly. Chef Brian Howard offered smoky, wood-fired Isaan sausage with fermented green mango, while Lamaii served garlicky crispy prawn. Chef Steve Kestler of Aroma Latin American Cocina created a citrus-forward Chinatown Ceviche exclusively for the event. "It was an honor to be part of this great community event," Kestler said.
Other highlights included Chef Jimmy Li's exclusive abalone and sea cucumber meatball from Shanghai Taste, Double Zero Pie & Pub's new crispy-edged New York-style pizza, and China Mama's tangy orange chicken. Crystina Nguyen of Mama's House × Durango Social Club presented delicate rice dumplings, and O.Onigiri offered unagi, wagyu, and shrimp tempura. Noodlehead's famous beef rolls and classic shredded chicken and cold noodles were passed throughout, while Charismatic Yo, Mochi! founder Santy Luangpraseuth served crème brûlée mochi donuts. Chef Yuka of Moignet Café rounded out sweets with mini chiffon sandos, and Milk Bread kept tables stocked with warm cheese and guava bread.
Longtime food and beverage veteran Paul Ellis poured wine and champagne, pairing port with a blue cheese flight, while The Alchemist Bar & Restaurant provided cocktails and zero-proof beverages. Notable guests included rock photographer David Plastik, whose work has appeared in Rolling Stone, RIP, and Creem, and legendary music publicist Mitch Schneider, who has represented David Bowie, Ozzy Osbourne, Aerosmith, and Tom Petty. Schneider described the reception on Facebook as a "meaningful event" honoring creators "who've helped put Las Vegas Chinatown on the map," praising the "taste bud-awakening curated bites from Chinatown's top chefs."
Las Vegas Chinatown receives approximately 23.9 million visits annually and is home to 248 verified sit-down restaurants, along with cafés, markets, spas, retailers, and nightlife businesses stretching from I-15 to Rainbow Boulevard. "It's 23.9 million visits a year - more than some countries and more than most cities - all concentrated in one neighborhood," Muscaglione said. "These creators have helped the world see why." The awards were established to formally recognize independent storytellers whose work has built awareness of the corridor, turning individual businesses into destinations and establishing Chinatown as one of Las Vegas' most closely watched neighborhoods.
The over-capacity attendance and broad participation underscored the event's success, laying a strong foundation for the future. ChinatownVegas.com is presenting complete coverage in a special edition of This Week in Chinatown, with both written and video episodes devoted to the reception. Beginning with subsequent editions, the written report and companion video will be released together every Monday.
