Intershop Communications AG, a global provider of agentic B2B commerce solutions, reported a positive operating result for the first nine months of 2026, marking a sharp turnaround from the prior year and signaling that its cost-reduction strategy and cloud-focused pivot are gaining traction. The Jena, Germany-based company generated earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) of EUR 0.2 million, compared with a loss of EUR 1.4 million in the same period of 2025, according to its quarterly statement released via NEWMEDIAWIRE.
The improvement came despite a decline in total revenues, which fell to EUR 23.4 million from EUR 25.2 million a year earlier. Intershop attributed the revenue drop to the expected decline in legacy license and maintenance business, which plunged 42% to EUR 2.9 million as the company shifts toward cloud-based offerings. That strategic shift is paying off: cloud revenues rose 2% to EUR 15.7 million and now account for 67% of total revenues, up six percentage points year over year.
More importantly for future growth, incoming cloud orders jumped 29% to EUR 14.2 million, with new customers contributing EUR 3.7 million and existing customers EUR 10.5 million. Cloud annual recurring revenues (ARR) stood at EUR 20.3 million as of September 30, 2026, up 3% from a year earlier, while new ARR rose 27% to EUR 2.1 million. Net new ARR, a key indicator of the health of the subscription business, turned a corner in the third quarter, rising to EUR 0.5 million from EUR 0.2 million in the second quarter, suggesting the recovery that began late last year is stabilizing.
“Nine months into the year, the positive trend seen in the first two quarters continues: our consistent cost discipline is paying off, we have once again generated positive EBIT, and we are on track to meet our full-year targets,” said CEO Markus Dränert. He noted that total expenses were cut by 13% to EUR 23.2 million, while research and development spending fell 6% to EUR 5.1 million and sales and marketing costs dropped 10% to EUR 4.2 million.
The company also highlighted that independent analysts recognized its agentic commerce platform, with Intershop winning top medals in 11 of 12 categories in the Paradigm B2B Combine 2026. Cash flow from operating activities more than doubled to EUR 3.6 million from EUR 1.6 million, and cash and cash equivalents rose to EUR 9.6 million. The equity ratio improved slightly to 37%.
Intershop confirmed its forecast for the full year 2026, expecting incoming cloud orders and net new ARR at the previous year’s level, revenues to decline by a slightly smaller percentage than in the prior year, and a balanced operating result. The full quarterly statement is available in the company’s financial reports.
The results matter for investors and the broader B2B software sector because they show that even amid subdued customer willingness to invest, disciplined cost management and a focus on recurring cloud revenue can deliver profitability. For Intershop, the third consecutive quarter of positive operating results provides a foundation to scale its agentic commerce platform, though the modest net new ARR and continued revenue decline indicate that the transition is not yet complete.
