Kampgrounds of America Releases 10th Annual Camping and Outdoor Hospitality Report

Kampgrounds of America (KOA) has released its 10th annual Camping and Outdoor Hospitality Report, shedding light on the latest trends and behaviors in the camping community. Amid a post-pandemic world, the report highlights a significant increase in camping activities, with 4.4 million new campers embracing the lifestyle each year since the onset of COVID-19.

Among the noteworthy findings, the report reveals that 51% of campers have taken a road trip in the past year, with 76% of them incorporating camping into their journeys. This indicates a growing preference for blending travel with outdoor experiences. Additionally, 79% of travelers prioritize wellness activities such as forest immersion, meditation, yoga, and mindful strolls during their camping trips, reflecting a trend towards holistic well-being.

The report also highlights the rise of glamping, with 58% of campers having tried this luxurious form of camping in the past year. Furthermore, 36% of guests plan to experience glamping for the first time this year. Diane Eichler, Senior Vice President of Marketing at KOA, commented on the findings, stating, "Over the last decade, we’ve observed a significant increase in active camping households. Our research shows that in the past ten years, over 40 million North Americans tried camping for the first time."

KOA, with more than 500 locations across North America, offers various accommodations ranging from traditional tent camping and RV pull-through sites to deluxe cabins and unique glamping options like safari tents. The campgrounds are equipped with amenities such as swimming pools, playgrounds, organized recreational activities, and puppy playgrounds, catering to both relaxation and adventure-seeking campers.

On June 5th, live from KOA’s first and oldest campground in Billings, Montana, Diane Eichler conducted a nationwide media tour discussing the report's findings. Topics included unique insights from the Camping and Outdoor Hospitality Report, top trends and preferences of campers, and ways campers prioritize health and wellness through outdoor activities. Eichler also shared insider tips and recommended destinations for the camping season.

The report's findings are based on 4,100 surveys completed among a random sample of U.S. and Canadian households, ensuring statistically balanced results aligned with population figures for age, gender, and ethnicity. With a margin of error of +/- 1.82 percentage points for U.S. households and 2.83 percentage points for Canadian households, the report provides a reliable overview of current camping trends.

For more than 60 years, Kampgrounds of America has been a leader in outdoor hospitality, connecting people to the outdoors and each other. KOA offers unparalleled support to campground owners and operators and continues to evolve as a premier destination for outdoor enthusiasts. For more information, visit KOA.com.
