This September, Suicide Awareness and Prevention Month will be marked by the 2024 Live Your Lyrics event, a unique musical gathering dedicated to raising awareness about suicide and fostering community unity. The event will take place on Sunday, September 15, 2024, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Nissi's Entertainment & Events Center in Lafayette, Colorado.
Live Your Lyrics was founded by Dave Sluiter, who was motivated by the tragic loss of his partner to suicide. With his band, Lakota Ridge, Dave started this annual event to break societal stigmas surrounding mental health and provide hope to those contemplating self-harm or suicide. According to Dave, "Our mission is to dismantle societal stigmas surrounding mental health and offer hope and alternatives to individuals contemplating self-harm or suicide."
The event will feature performances by three local bands—Funk Knuf, Hey Lady, and Special Guest Pianist Brandon Swing—each offering their time and talent to support this important cause. Attendees will enjoy a day filled with music, joy, and opportunities for meaningful conversations about mental health and suicide prevention.
All proceeds from the event will go to Mental Health Partners (MHP), a local organization committed to providing expert mental health and substance use care. MHP's crisis center offers 24/7/365 walk-in care for those facing urgent mental health issues or substance use problems. Their mission is encapsulated in their motto: "Healing is our purpose. Help is our promise. Health is our passion."
Live Your Lyrics is made possible through the generous support of hosts David Sluiter and Melodie Reagan, sponsors such as Crazy Good Marketing, i2i Workforce, Azafran, PelleyConnects, and Red Rock Roofing, and community partners including Colorado Companies to Watch, First United Methodist Church of Lafayette, and ProsperBridge. This collective effort underscores the event's focus on unity and community-driven solutions for mental health challenges.
Tickets for the event are available for $25 for adults and $10 for ages 3-20, while children two years old and under can attend for free. Tickets can be purchased at https://liveyourlyrics.life/.
Live Your Lyrics 2024 offers not only an unforgettable musical experience but also a chance to unite for a crucial cause. By participating, attendees contribute to a movement that champions understanding, compassion, and life.
