San Diego's Mainly Mozart All-Star Orchestra Festival will return for its 2025 season, offering six unique performances from June 18 to 28 featuring musicians from the nation's most prestigious orchestras. The festival's opening night will highlight a remarkable musical discovery: Mozart's newly found Serenade in C Major, composed when the legendary composer was between 10 and 13 years old.
Under the direction of Maestro Michael Francis, the festival will showcase works by Mozart, Beethoven, Strauss, and other classical masters at two venues: The Conrad Prebys Performing Arts Center and UC San Diego's Epstein Family Amphitheater. The performances will feature renowned soloists including pianist Joyce Yang, violinist Noah Bendix-Balgley, and clarinetist Boris Allakhverdyan.
The festival represents a significant cultural event, bringing together concertmasters and principal players from top orchestras like the New York Philharmonic, Los Angeles Philharmonic, and Chicago Symphony. By presenting the newly discovered Mozart Serenade alongside works by other classical composers, the event offers audiences a comprehensive exploration of classical music's evolution and enduring power.
This year's program emphasizes musical diversity, ranging from Baroque masterpieces like Bach's Brandenburg Concertos to more contemporary interpretations such as a Klezmer Concerto. The festival not only celebrates musical excellence but also provides an accessible platform for audiences to experience world-class orchestral performances.
