Medios AG Closes Aschaffenburg Facility to Optimize Manufacturing Network Amid Margin Pressure

Medios AG announced on June 29, 2026, the closure of its Aschaffenburg facility, operated by its wholly owned subsidiary Medios Solutions Aschaffenburg GmbH, as part of an optimization of its Germany-wide manufacturing network. The company has relocated patient-specific production to its remaining five GMP-certified sites, ensuring uninterrupted supply to pharmacies and hospitals. The Aschaffenburg site accounted for approximately 10% of the Medios Group's German production volume but had been operating at below-average profitability due to declining capacity utilization and sustained margin pressure from price regulatory adjustments.

The closure affects 32 employees, for whom Medios is seeking to provide fair compensation. The decision is part of the company's Operational Excellence Program, which aims to sustainably strengthen profitability. Structural renovation work required at the site accelerated the implementation of this move. Medios had previously operated six GMP manufacturing facilities in Germany for patient-specific therapies, with GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) entailing mandatory production standards and validated quality management.

Thomas Meier, CEO of Medios AG, stated: "With a view to ensuring a reliable supply for our customers and maintaining capacity utilization at all sites, we are now optimizing our successful regional presence strategy and consistently developing it further. With Mannheim and Stuttgart, we have two high-performing Medios sites in southern Germany, ensuring that a reliable supply is maintained."

The news underscores the challenges facing specialty pharmaceutical manufacturers amid regulatory cost pressures. Medios, a leading provider of Specialty Pharma in Europe, operates locations in Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Spain, focusing on individualized medicine. The company's shares are listed on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange's Prime Standard and included in the SDAX index. Key upcoming events for Medios in 2026 include the Half-Year Financial Report on August 12, the Berenberg and Goldman Sachs German Corporate Conference in September, a Capital Markets Day on September 28-29 in Breda, and a quarterly statement on November 10.
