A new leveraged exchange-traded note is giving sophisticated traders a way to amplify their exposure to the companies at the center of the artificial intelligence economy, as AI-related announcements arrive at high frequency and create potential catalysts for active investors.
The MicroSectors 3× Long MANGOS+ ex Private Companies ETN, trading on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker MNGU, provides 3x long exposure to the daily performance of the NYSE MaNGoS+ Index. That index is a rules-based, equal-weighted benchmark of 10 U.S.-listed companies positioned at the center of the AI economy. The ETN was launched in August by REX Shares and is issued by the Bank of Montreal, according to the announcement reported through NEWMEDIAWIRE.
The product matters because it packages exposure to a concentrated slice of the AI supply chain into a single trading vehicle, letting traders take a short-term bullish view on AI without picking an individual stock. The 3x feature can magnify gains when the underlying index moves in the trader's favor, but it can equally magnify losses when the index moves against them.
Critically, MNGU is designed as a daily trading tool, not a buy-and-hold investment. Because leverage resets daily, returns over any period longer than one day will differ from three times the return of the index. Losses compound the same way gains do, and a choppy, sideways market can produce losses as a result of the daily reset mechanism. That effect increases with index volatility and with the length of the holding period, so the instrument requires tracking over the trading day.
The underlying index is itself concentrated, holding 10 constituents that are equally weighted at 10% each at each quarterly reconstitution. The performance of any single constituent has a material effect on the index level, and that concentration is amplified by the leverage factor. The six named anchors for the index are heavy-hitters. Every anchor meeting the qualification requirements is selected for the index, but Anthropic PBC and OpenAI Group PBC were private as of the index launch date and are therefore ineligible; they seed the supply chain search and can only be included following their listing date if they satisfy applicable eligibility requirements. The ETN only includes common stocks, ADRs and GDRs listed on the New York Stock Exchange, Nasdaq, NYSE American, NYSE Arca or Cboe BZX.
To qualify, each anchor must carry a float-adjusted market capitalization of $5 billion or more, a six-month average daily traded value of $100 million or more, a free float of 5% or more, a positive trailing 12-month price-to-sales ratio and at least 60 calendar days of active trading, with shorter thresholds for certain qualifying ADRs and MaNGoS+ securities. The index also looks at companies that are customers or suppliers of its major AI anchors, ranking candidates by AI-related revenue exposure, the money a company makes from selling AI products, services or infrastructure such as AI-optimized servers, accelerated-compute systems, GPUs, networking gear, cloud-based AI services and machine learning platforms. The highest-ranked companies are selected to bring the index to 10 constituents, and if too few qualify, the threshold can be lowered to reach the target.
