National Term Limits Day Highlights Growing Bipartisan Support for Congressional Term Limits

A nationwide movement to establish congressional term limits is gaining momentum, with 87% of Americans supporting the initiative across political divides. U.S. Term Limits has designated February 27th as National Term Limits Day to raise awareness and promote citizen activism around this bipartisan issue.

The organization chose February 27th to commemorate the 1951 ratification of the 22nd Amendment, which established presidential term limits. Drawing inspiration from this precedent, supporters are now pushing for similar restrictions on congressional service.

Nine states, including Florida, Alabama, and Missouri, have already initiated efforts to call for a constitutional convention to propose a congressional term limits amendment. By pursuing this state-led approach, term limits advocates aim to bypass congressional resistance and directly engage the ratification process.

Citizen participation is crucial to the movement's strategy. Supporters are encouraged to engage in grassroots activism, including displaying term limits signs, organizing community events, contacting state legislators, and using social media to spread their message.

The push for term limits reflects a growing frustration with career politicians and a desire to return to the founders' vision of a citizen legislature. Proponents argue that limiting congressional terms will promote fresh perspectives, reduce entrenched political interests, and increase governmental accountability.
