Picky Global Launches 12-Inch Receipt Photobooth on Kickstarter, Targeting Small Spaces

South Korean photobooth operator Picky Global has launched a 12-inch photobooth that prints black-and-white photos on ordinary thermal receipt paper in about one second. The product, called Receipt Photobooth, is now seeking backers on Kickstarter. The company, which has operated more than 200 PICKYPIC booths across South Korea for three years and exported to 11 international markets, is positioning the new device as a compact alternative to floor-standing photobooths that require dedicated space and dye-sublimation ink.

Receipt Photobooth sits on a countertop, shelf, or table, and uses commonly available thermal receipt paper. A single roll produces approximately 500 prints, and the system requires no ink cartridges. Each print includes a QR code that guests can scan to download the original full-color digital image to their smartphone, combining a physical keepsake with a digital file.

The device is designed for cafés, retail stores, pop-up shops, and event venues where traditional booths cannot fit. It comes in two models: the acrylic Urban, measuring 190 × 230 × 316 mm and available in five colors, and the wooden Modern, measuring 290 × 290 × 310 mm. Both weigh approximately 5 kg. Setup requires only a power outlet and Wi-Fi connection, without the complex installation typical of floor-standing booths.

Beyond hardware, the system includes software features for brands, retailers, and event operators. It ships with 20 default frame templates and supports custom frames featuring a brand's logo, artwork, or event design. Operators can add printed messages such as daily fortunes, promotions, or event copy, and guests can personalize photos with simple drawings or stickers. An optional survey can be added to the shooting flow to collect customer feedback and engagement data, making the booth a customer engagement tool rather than just a camera and printer.

"Traditional photobooths require businesses to dedicate a significant amount of floor space to the experience," said Young Roung Lee, CEO of Picky Global. "We wanted to create something that could turn a small, previously unused space into a photo experience — whether that's a café counter, a retail shelf, a pop-up store, or an event table."

The global Kickstarter campaign for Receipt Photobooth launches September 22, 2026 at 9 AM ET. The campaign features both the Urban and Modern models, with limited Launch Day rewards available to early backers. More information is available on the Kickstarter campaign page.

The launch matters because it could lower the barrier for small businesses to offer a photo experience. By using thermal receipt paper and a compact footprint, the booth avoids the space, ink, and installation costs that have kept many small venues out of the photobooth market. If adopted widely, the format could expand the presence of photo experiences in everyday retail and hospitality settings, while giving brands a new channel for customer engagement and data collection.
