Quantum BioPharma Advances Lucid-MS Toward Phase 2 Trials for Multiple Sclerosis

Quantum BioPharma Ltd. (NASDAQ: QNTM) (CSE: QNTM) is advancing its patented drug candidate Lucid-MS toward Phase 2 clinical trials for multiple sclerosis (MS), marking a potential shift in treatment approaches for the neurodegenerative disease. Unlike existing MS therapies that primarily target the immune system, Lucid-MS is a nonimmunomodulatory, neuroprotective compound intended to directly prevent degradation of the myelin sheath, the protective layer around nerve fibers that is damaged in MS.

The company recently filed an Investigational New Drug application with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and is preparing for a Phase 2 trial following successful completion of Phase 1 safety studies and key toxicology programs. According to an editorial published by AINewsWire, more than a decade of preclinical research supports Lucid-MS, including studies that demonstrated preservation of myelin integrity, reduced degradation, and improved functional recovery in animal models.

Quantum BioPharma is also collaborating with Massachusetts General Hospital on validation of a novel PET imaging technique designed to directly measure myelin integrity in MS patients. This tool could help evaluate the effectiveness of remyelinating therapies, providing a more precise way to assess treatment outcomes. The editorial noted recent clinical and regulatory developments from Novartis AG (NYSE: NVS), Merck & Co. Inc. (NYSE: MRK), TG Therapeutics Inc. (NASDAQ: TGTX), and Bristol Myers Squibb Company (NYSE: BMY), underscoring continued innovation across autoimmune and chronic inflammatory disease treatment markets.

If successful, Lucid-MS could represent a paradigm shift in MS treatment by targeting the underlying mechanism of myelin degradation rather than modulating the immune system. This approach may offer new hope for patients who do not respond adequately to existing immunomodulatory therapies. The Phase 2 trial will be critical in determining whether the preclinical benefits translate to human patients.

Quantum BioPharma is a biopharmaceutical company focused on developing treatments for neurodegenerative and metabolic disorders, as well as alcohol misuse disorders. Through its wholly owned subsidiary, Lucid Psycheceuticals Inc., the company is dedicated to advancing Lucid-MS. The company also retains a 19.84% ownership stake in Unbuzzd Wellness Inc., which markets an over-the-counter version of its alcohol misuse product, and is entitled to royalty payments on sales.
