Quantum BioPharma Ltd. (NASDAQ: QNTM) (CSE: QNTM), a biopharmaceutical company focused on innovative therapies for neurodegenerative and metabolic disorders, was featured on the latest episode of The BioMedWire Podcast. Co-founder and executive co-chair Anthony Durkacz discussed the company's lead drug candidate, Lucid-MS, and its commercial alcohol metabolism product, unbuzzd.
Durkacz highlighted that Lucid-MS is being developed to address mobility loss associated with multiple sclerosis by targeting nerve damage, an area he believes remains unmet by currently available treatments. The company is preparing for its upcoming Phase 2 clinical trial for Lucid-MS, which will be the first study to evaluate the drug candidate in multiple sclerosis patients following Phase 1 testing in healthy volunteers.
In addition to Lucid-MS, Durkacz discussed unbuzzd, a product designed to accelerate blood alcohol metabolism, which is currently available in the U.S. market. Quantum BioPharma retains ownership of 19.84% of Unbuzzd Wellness Inc., the company that markets the over-the-counter version, and also receives royalty payments of 7% of sales until $250 million is reached, after which the royalty drops to 3% in perpetuity.
The company's focus on both therapeutic and commercial products positions it to address significant unmet medical needs while generating revenue through its stake in unbuzzd. The upcoming Phase 2 trial for Lucid-MS represents a key milestone, as positive results could offer a new treatment option for multiple sclerosis patients suffering from mobility loss. For investors, the progress of Lucid-MS and the commercial performance of unbuzzd are critical factors to watch.
