(NYSE American: RGNT) is reinforcing the manufacturing and intellectual property foundation behind its GelrinC cartilage-repair technology as the company moves toward broader commercialization. The company recently received a Japanese Notice of Allowance for patent protection covering its organic solvent-free manufacturing process and ready-to-use liquid formulation for GelrinC. This milestone follows a recent U.S. patent issuance that expanded the company's global IP portfolio to nearly 30 patents.

The proprietary manufacturing process increases yield fivefold, simplifies production, and is designed to support commercial-scale manufacturing. These advantages are critical for an off-the-shelf cartilage-repair product that aims to avoid the complexity and cost associated with cell-based procedures. The enhanced yield and simplified production are expected to facilitate scalability, which is essential as Regentis prepares for broader market entry.

The timing of the IP milestone aligns with significant commercial progress. Regentis has begun European commercialization efforts following CE Mark approval, and its pivotal U.S. trial has surpassed 50% enrollment. GelrinC is a cell-free, off-the-shelf hydrogel designed to regenerate damaged knee cartilage. It is eroded and resorbed in the knee, allowing surrounding cells to regenerate cartilage in a controlled and synchronous process. The product addresses a substantial unmet need, with approximately 470,000 cases of cartilage knee repair annually in the U.S. where no off-the-shelf treatment is currently available.
