The Georgia Latino Film Alliance (GALFA) has announced that Roberto Sanchez, a veteran actor, writer, director, and producer, will receive the Excellence in Filmmaking Award at the 15th Annual Georgia Latino International Film Festival (#GALIFF2026). The award ceremony is scheduled for Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at Atlanta's iconic Fox Theatre, as part of Hispanic Heritage Month celebrations. This recognition highlights Sanchez's enduring influence in an industry often defined by fleeting fame.
Born in Cuba and raised in Miami, Sanchez served 11 years in the United States Navy before transitioning to Hollywood. His career spans over 150 film and television credits across 25 years, beginning with his breakout role in John Singleton's 2 Fast 2 Furious and continuing with notable performances in Apple TV+'s Palm Royale and the upcoming Cape Fear series. He has also appeared in popular shows such as Running Point (Netflix), Dexter: Original Sin (Showtime/Paramount+), and Queen of the South (FOX). His work has earned critical acclaim, including an Imagen Award nomination for Best Actor for his lead role in Lake Los Angeles.
Beyond acting, Sanchez has expanded into filmmaking, writing, directing, and producing personal stories. His upcoming romantic drama The Café explores themes of love, timing, and regret.
