Shepard Fairey and Bandcamp Launch Wildfire Relief T-Shirt to Support LA Music Community

Bandcamp, the independent music platform, has unveiled a limited-edition T-shirt designed by renowned artist Shepard Fairey to support musicians affected by recent Los Angeles wildfires. Throughout February, all proceeds from the shirt's sales will be donated to MusiCares, an organization providing emergency assistance to music industry professionals.

The T-shirt features Fairey's 'Lotus Woman' design, originally a 2015 screen print symbolizing resilience and strength. This iteration incorporates the Seal of The City of Los Angeles, reflecting the collaborative effort to aid wildfire victims in the music community.

Dan Melnick, Bandcamp's General Manager, emphasized the platform's commitment to supporting artists, noting that the wildfires endangered musicians' livelihoods. The initiative builds on Bandcamp's previous fundraising efforts, including Bandcamp Fridays, which have generated over $131 million for independent musicians and labels.

Fairey expressed his emotional connection to the project, stating he was deeply moved by the community's losses and wanted to contribute to the recovery efforts. The artist's design serves as a powerful symbol of hope and solidarity with Los Angeles musicians.

The fundraiser extends beyond the T-shirt, with Bandcamp planning a special day on February 7 where 100% of platform proceeds will be donated to MusiCares. The initiative is supported by industry partners including A2IM, Harman, Lagunitas, Roland, Shure, Victrola, and WIN.

This collaboration represents more than a fundraising effort; it demonstrates the music industry's capacity for collective support during challenging times. By leveraging art and community, Bandcamp and Shepard Fairey are providing tangible assistance to musicians rebuilding their lives after the devastating wildfires.
