SouthernMED Pediatrics has acquired Tri-County Pediatrics, effective December 3, 2025, expanding its pediatric healthcare network in northern South Carolina's Tri-County region. The acquisition includes Tri-County's two office locations in Rock Hill at 165 Amendment Avenue and York at 815 East Liberty Street, strengthening SouthernMED's presence in an area considered part of the broader Charlotte metropolitan community.
Tri-County Pediatrics, founded in 2001 by Dr. Gaurang Shah, has established a strong reputation for high-quality children's healthcare and is recognized as a certified Patient-Centered Medical Home. Dr. Shah, recipient of the Rural Health Physician of the Year Award in 2016, will continue leading patient care across both offices, ensuring continuity for families who have trusted the practice for more than two decades. Both offices will maintain their current operating hours, including Saturday morning availability at the Rock Hill location.
This acquisition represents a strategic expansion for SouthernMED Pediatrics, enhancing operational density alongside its existing Fort Mill office and recently acquired Rock Hill location formerly known as Sunshine Pediatrics. The integration enables expanded access to coordinated pediatric services throughout the Fort Mill, Rock Hill, and York areas, addressing healthcare needs in a rapidly developing region.
"Welcoming Tri-County Pediatrics into the SouthernMED family marks an exciting step in strengthening pediatric care across the northern part of our state," said Dr. R. Kyle Guyton, MD, FAAP, Co-Founder of SouthernMED Pediatrics. "Dr. Shah has built an exceptional practice rooted in accessibility, quality, and community connection. By joining forces, we can expand resources, elevate clinical support, and improve access for families."
The acquisition's importance lies in its potential to enhance healthcare delivery through expanded resources and integrated services. SouthernMED's statewide network now enables broader access to behavioral health integration, telemedicine, online appointment scheduling, and enhanced communication tools, supporting children and families at every developmental stage. This consolidation addresses growing healthcare demands in northern South Carolina's expanding communities while maintaining the personalized care patients value.
"It is an honor to join SouthernMED Pediatrics," said Dr. Gaurang Shah, Founder of Tri-County Pediatrics. "For more than 20 years, our focus has been providing exceptional care to families across our community, including those in rural areas. Partnering with SouthernMED allows us to enhance that mission while maintaining the personalized, relationship-driven care our patients value."
The transaction strengthens SouthernMED's position within the broader US Pediatric Partners network, supporting the organization's mission to deliver comprehensive, family-centered pediatric care.
