The Japan-America Society of Dallas/Fort Worth (JASDFW) will present its highest honor, the Sun & Star Legacy Award, to Texas Governor Greg Abbott during the 28th Annual Legacy Award Dinner scheduled for April 15, 2026. The event will take place in the Grand Ballroom of the Irving Convention Center from 6:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., bringing together hundreds of executives from business, government, and diplomatic communities to celebrate the enduring partnership between Japan and Texas.
Governor Abbott is being recognized for his outstanding leadership and commitment to advancing economic, cultural, and diplomatic ties between Japan and Texas. Under his administration, Texas has emerged as one of Japan's strongest partners in the United States for trade, innovation, and investment. This recognition comes at a time when Texas hosts hundreds of Japanese-owned businesses and serves as a cornerstone of continued U.S.-Japan collaboration.
The significance of this award extends beyond ceremonial recognition, highlighting the substantial economic impact of Japan-Texas relations. Governor Abbott's administration has established strategic agreements with both the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and Aichi Prefecture, which is home to Toyota's global headquarters. These partnerships have facilitated substantial business investments and cultural exchanges that benefit both economies.
Lawrence P. Howorth, Chair of the Board of Directors for JASDFW, emphasized the importance of these bilateral relationships. "The Sun & Star Legacy Award Dinner exemplifies how partnerships between Texas and Japan continue to shape our future," Howorth stated. "We are honored to recognize Governor Abbott for his leadership and commitment to strengthening this relationship. This event stands as a powerful platform for building friendships, fostering business collaboration, and celebrating the shared values of innovation, respect, and community."
The annual gala serves as JASDFW's signature fundraiser, supporting programs that promote education, culture, and business exchange across North Texas and beyond. Proceeds from the event enable the Society to continue its mission of fostering mutual understanding and collaboration between Japanese and American communities. The evening will feature a VIP reception, gourmet dinner, and networking opportunities with influential figures from both nations, along with a silent auction offering curated travel experiences, designer jewelry, fine dining packages, and exclusive sports and golf offerings.
For businesses and community members interested in participating, sponsorships and table reservations are now available through the organization's website at https://www.jasdfw.org. The event represents a critical opportunity for strengthening international business relationships at a time when global economic partnerships are increasingly important for regional growth and stability.
