'The New Rules of Biotech' Hardcover and Audiobook Now Available, Offering Founders a Playbook for a Changed Industry

David Craig, a biotechnology founder and longtime industry operator, has released his book 'The New Rules of Biotech: A Founder's Guide to Building Great Companies' in hardcover ($29.99) and audiobook formats on Google Play, joining the previously available paperback ($21.99) and Kindle ($11.99) editions on Amazon. The book targets founders, investors, board members, and operators navigating the current biotech landscape, which has shifted dramatically from the boom years of 2021.

The book opens from the premise that the old biotech playbook no longer works. Capital is more expensive, the Food and Drug Administration's standards have tightened, and the Inflation Reduction Act has fundamentally altered the economics of drug development before a product even reaches approval. Investors who once funded ambitious slide decks now demand capital efficiency and a clear path to value. Craig's book aims to be the operating manual for building a successful biotech company under these new conditions.

Drawing on his experience founding and running a preclinical biotech firm, Craig covers practical topics such as choosing between a platform and an asset, selecting an affordable modality, raising seed rounds based on milestones rather than hope, and using non-dilutive capital strategically. The book walks readers through Investigational New Drug (IND)-enabling work, Chemistry, Manufacturing, and Controls (CMC), clinical decisions, term sheets, board dynamics, business development, and exit strategies like acquisitions and IPOs, without sentimentality.

Written for founders, institutional investors, board members, and operators, the book pairs a plain-spoken, analytical voice with specific, actionable insights. Each chapter closes with separate takeaways for operators and investors, ensuring the material serves both sides of the table. The new audiobook format makes the content accessible to those who prefer to listen on the go.

Craig founded his company partly due to a family connection to a rare genetic muscle disease, RYR-1 related congenital muscular dystrophy. This personal connection runs through the book and reinforces its argument that biotech company building carries a responsibility beyond financial returns.

'Founders and operators take in ideas in different ways,' said David Craig. 'The hardcover is there for the people who want a durable copy on the desk, the paperback and Kindle for everyone else, and the audiobook on Google Play for those who prefer to listen on the move. The message is the same across all of them: build for the market that exists now, not the one that existed in 2021.'

The book is published by D. Craig Consulting LLC and is available in multiple formats: hardcover (Amazon), paperback (Amazon), Kindle (Amazon), and audiobook on Google Play (Google Play). The book was originally published on June 8, 2026.
