The United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) has unanimously approved the addition of two new board members, Melina Davis and Mark Johnson, expanding its board to nine members. Both executives will begin their terms on April 1, 2025, and serve until September 30, 2028.
Davis, CEO and executive vice president of the Medical Society of Virginia, and Johnson, former CEO of Averhealth and BetterMed Urgent Care, bring extensive leadership experience to the nonprofit organization dedicated to organ donation and transplantation services.
UNOS Board Chair Sue Dunn highlighted the strategic importance of these appointments, emphasizing the new members' backgrounds that align with the organization's mission to save and improve lives. Davis expressed her commitment to advocating for innovative solutions and enhancing donor awareness, while Johnson noted the critical role of UNOS in navigating the complex organ transplantation system.
The additions come at a significant time for organ donation, as the healthcare landscape continues to evolve. With their combined decades of executive leadership, Davis and Johnson are expected to contribute valuable perspectives to UNOS's ongoing efforts to optimize organ sharing and transplant services.
The new board members join a diverse group of healthcare and business professionals who are dedicated to improving patient outcomes and advancing organ donation initiatives nationwide.
