The Exit Planning Institute (EPI) Wisconsin Chapter is set to host its annual Business Owner Forum on September 17 at Westmoor Country Club in Brookfield, Wisconsin. The event, running from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., will focus on family business owner transitions and actionable strategies for successful exits.
This year's forum will feature interviews with three Wisconsin business owners: two who transitioned their companies to the next generation, and one who sold their business to a public buyer. These firsthand accounts will provide attendees with real-world perspectives on the challenges and opportunities of business exit planning.
"EPI Wisconsin's Business Owner Forums provide a confidential space for discussions with local business owners and industry professionals focused on exit planning," said Erik Owen, President of EPI Wisconsin. "This year, we are excited to feature in-depth interviews with three family business owners who recently exited their businesses along with expert insights from five advisors who have built successful exit planning practices."
The forum aims to equip business owners with knowledge about transition strategies and the options available to them. For exit planning professionals—including financial advisors, business consultants, and others—the event offers a chance to hear directly from owners who have undertaken leadership and ownership transitions.
According to EPI, many business owners are unprepared for the complexities of succession, which can lead to failed transitions and lost value. By sharing real-life experiences, the forum seeks to highlight the importance of proactive planning and the role of advisors in facilitating successful exits.
Attendees will gain insights into family dynamics, valuation, legal considerations, and communication strategies that are critical for smooth transitions. The event also provides a networking opportunity for owners and professionals to connect and discuss confidential matters in a trusted environment.
The Business Owner Forum is part of EPI's broader mission to educate advisors and business owners on exit planning best practices. EPI, founded in 2005, offers the Certified Exit Planning Advisor (CEPA®) credential, which is widely recognized in the industry. The organization provides resources and training to help advisors become trusted partners in business exit planning.
