Avatar Medical and Kyber announced on October 1, 2026, that they have secured a grant of up to €3.7 million under the French government's France 2030 program to develop Avatar MediVerse, a project designed to make immersive, personalized imaging available wherever clinicians and patients need it.
The grant, awarded under France 2030, supports the development of Avatar MediVerse (MediVerse), which seeks to expand immersive 3D medical imaging beyond dedicated rooms. Currently, interactive 3D anatomy is often confined to specialized spaces, but MediVerse aims to make it accessible wherever it can be useful in the surgical journey. This could significantly enhance surgical planning, patient communication, and intraoperative decision-making.
The project combines the expertise of two French deeptech companies. Avatar Medical, founded in 2020, specializes in 3D medical visualization and visual intelligence for surgery. Its flagship solution, Avatar Medical Vision, instantly transforms CT scans and MRIs into interactive, realistic 3D visualizations without segmentation, providing clinicians with an intuitive way to understand each patient's specific anatomy. Kyber, a commercial spin-off of KLabs—the company hosting the VideoLAN project, creators of VLC—brings know-how in ultra-low latency XR streaming and remote rendering. Together, they aim to enable the same personalized 3D representation of a patient's anatomy to be used throughout the care pathway, from consultation to surgical planning and into the operating room.
This matters because consistent visual information across the surgical journey can improve collaboration among clinicians and enhance patient understanding. By making immersive 3D imaging accessible wherever needed, MediVerse could reduce logistical barriers and bring advanced visualization to more clinical settings.
