Canada Nickel's Crawford Project Gets Federal Nod, First Under Amended Impact Assessment Act

Canada Nickel Company Inc. has secured a positive Decision Statement from the Minister of Environment, Climate Change and Nature for its Crawford Nickel Project, marking the first mining approval under Canada's amended Impact Assessment Act since 2019. The announcement, made on July 31, 2026, was celebrated by Noble Mineral Exploration Inc., which held the project until 2019.

The Crawford Nickel Project, located in Ontario, is expected to contribute approximately $70 billion to Canada's GDP and support around 185,000 person-years of employment. It was referred to Canada's Major Projects Office and selected as one of the first to advance under Ontario's "One Project, One Process" framework, streamlining approvals.

Noble CEO Vance White praised the development, stating, "We congratulate Canada Nickel on their announcement today of having secured Federal Approval for the Crawford Nickel Project. This development confirms the Company’s vision in having transferred the Crawford Nickel Project to the team at Canada Nickel in 2019." He added that the project's success could serve as a model for other properties held by East Timmins Nickel Ltd., a joint venture in which Noble holds a 20% interest.

The approval is a significant milestone for Canada's mining industry, demonstrating the effectiveness of the revised federal review process. It also underscores the growing importance of nickel, a critical mineral for electric vehicle batteries and renewable energy storage. The project's vast economic impact highlights the potential for job creation and economic growth in the region.

Noble Mineral Exploration, a Canadian junior exploration company, holds a stake in Canada Nickel and other ventures, including Homeland Nickel Inc. and East Timmins Nickel Inc. Noble also has extensive exploration rights across Ontario, Quebec, and Newfoundland, covering gold, nickel, copper, PGM, and rare earth elements.

The company's portfolio includes Project 81 in Timmins, which hosts diversified drill-ready targets, and the Holdsworth gold property in Wawa, Ontario. Noble's shares trade on the TSX Venture Exchange under the symbol "NOB".
