The project, part of the organization's 'Rooted in Resilience' Capital Campaign, will create a innovative facility designed to enhance emotional, social, and financial support for individuals and families affected by cancer.
The new six-acre campus, located adjacent to the Lafayette Reservoir, will feature cutting-edge facilities including support rooms, counseling spaces, art studios, a demonstration kitchen, and healing gardens. With state-of-the-art technology enabling in-person, virtual, and hybrid programming, the center aims to dramatically increase accessibility to critical support services.
Backed by a $5 million anonymous donation match and approaching its $30 million fundraising goal, the project represents a significant investment in comprehensive cancer care. The facility will enable Cancer Support Community to expand its reach, offering free programs to more diverse communities in the Bay Area.
Community leaders, including Lafayette Mayor Susan Candell and Congressman Mark DeSaulnier, have enthusiastically endorsed the project. State Senator Tim Grayson highlighted the organization's unparalleled work in addressing psychosocial cancer support needs, even naming it the district's Nonprofit of the Year.
CEO Lucinda Bazile emphasized that the groundbreaking represents more than just a new building, but a transformative approach to cancer support services.
