The Ron Sturgeon Collection has welcomed a stunning recreation of the 1957 Ferrari 250 GT Berlinetta Speciale, known as the Red Special Spyder, a tribute to one of Ferrari's most exclusive commissions. This 1970 model, inspired by the original designed for Prince Bernhard of the Netherlands, combines classic elegance with modern performance, featuring a high-revving engine, five-speed manual transmission, and distinctive design elements that echo the original's grandeur.
Under the hood, the Red Special Spyder boasts a powerplant capable of delivering an estimated 320 horsepower, complemented by triple Weber carburetors and a quad-exit exhaust system. The car's aesthetic pays homage to its predecessor with an oval grille, sculpted fender vents, and curved tailfins, all while riding on 15" Borrani wire wheels. Inside, the cockpit is adorned with a wood-rimmed steering wheel and Veglia Borletti gauges, blending luxury with the thrill of driving.
Ron Sturgeon, founder of the DFW Car & Toy Museum, remarked on the car's significance, stating, "It may be a recreation, but the craftsmanship and character are unmistakably Maranello." This addition not only enriches Sturgeon's collection but also serves as a testament to the enduring allure of Ferrari's design and engineering excellence.
The Ferrari 250 GT Red Special Spyder stands as a bridge between past and present, offering a glimpse into the golden age of automotive design while celebrating the meticulous craftsmanship that brings such legends back to life. Its inclusion in the Ron Sturgeon Collection highlights the importance of preserving automotive history and the continuous fascination with Ferrari's legacy.
